Leaving Luxembourg? The clean-exit checklist

Deposit back, flat handed over, tax sorted — the last-90-days plan for a departure without loose ends.

Äddi! Leaving well is a project like arriving was. Start about 90 days before moving day and work backwards.

Your flat

Give notice per your lease (usually 3 months), book movers early, arrange the end-of-lease clean, and photograph everything at handover (état des lieux de sortie). That protocol is what gets your deposit back — compare it line by line with the entry one.

Your admin

De-register at the commune (déclaration de départ), close or redirect utilities and contracts, and file your final tax return — Luxembourg taxes trailing income, and the bill arrives long after you've left. Keep a forwarding address active for at least a year.

Your things

Sell furniture to newcomers through Exchange instead of shipping it home, and keep one folder — paper or in your Moien wallet — with the handover protocol, final bills and tax papers.

The Moien shortcut

Tell the app your moving date once: it builds the countdown, books movers and cleaning, tracks the deposit and reminds you about the tax return. Plan your exit.
